St. Lawrence NYSARC (www.slnysarc.org), a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to working for and with people with developmental disabilities, announced that the Agency's Seaway Industries Advisory Council won the Self-Advocacy Group of the Year Award from The Self-Advocacy Association of New York State, Inc. during the annual conference in Albany. St. Lawrence NYSARC's Advisory Council consists of people with disabilities that work within the Agency and act on their own behalf to advocate for change. This group was honored for their diligence in addressing and resolving issues of importance to the work force. One of the Advisory Council's biggest accomplishments has been the implementation of an annual retreat that honors and educates employees that work for St. Lawrence NYSARC. The Self-Advocacy Association is a state-wide organization controlled by and for people with developmental disabilities. The purpose of the association is to help people with disabilities learn to speak up for themselves both individually and collectively. |
