Day Habilitation is a Home and Community-based Services (HCBS) Waiver program. A person-centered approach is used to develop programs that emphasize independence, integration, individualization, and productivity. Day Habilitation was originally designed to serve senior citizens. The program has been expanded to include young adults in specialized inclusionary models. Recently, most of our Day Treatment programs have been converted to Day Habilitation sites.  The Day Habilitation program offers more regulatory freedom, allowing for easier access to generic services within the community.

Two of the nine Day Habilitation sites are dedicated strictly to a senior population, one has been specialized for the visually and/or hearing impaired and one has been developed for the more independent consumer with a concentration on vocational and social skills. A number of Day Habilitation consumers work side-by-side with sheltered workshop employees, developing skills to enable them to find employment in the community.

Our participants in the Day Habilitation programs do a great deal of volunteer work with such agencies as the Seaway Nature Center, Salvation Army, Meals On Wheels and others. Our programs concentrate on inclusionary activities and integration with the nondisabled community.
