Peter Kahrmann's American Spirit Challenge Bicycle Ride

BLANK

St. Lawrence NYSARC (www.slnysarc.org) announced their support for Peter Kahrmann's American Spirit Challenge bicycle ride as he travels through St. Lawrence County on Thursday, September 30th and Friday, October 1st.

Peter Kahrmann, a brain injury survivor, is taking the 1,000-mile challenge across New York State to raise the public's awareness of the silent epidemic of brain injury, give hope to survivors and honor law enforcement for their role in saving his life.  The ride began on September 13th in Brooklyn and will end in Albany on October 5th where Kahrmann will be speaking at the New York State Department of Health's Annual Traumatic Brain Injury Conference.

St. Lawrence NYSARC is a provider of services to individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury.  The people who participate in this program will join Kahrmann by walking and riding through Potsdam starting on Market Street at about 3:30 p.m. on September 30th.  The Agency will also be hosting a send-off at 9:00 a.m. October 1st at Data 4-U, located on 24A Market Street in Potsdam .

The facts on brain injury confirm the need to increase public awareness.  Each year, 53,000 Americans die from brain injuries and 7,000 of those people are children.  Someone suffers a brain injury every 21 seconds in our country.  Between 1.5 and 2 million people in the U.S. suffer a brain injury every year.

Additional support for American Spirit Challenge 2004 will be provided by the Potsdam Elks Lodge 2074 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, The Potsdam Village Police Department and Great Northern Custom Screenprinting and Design.

St. Lawrence NYSARC exists as a non-profit membership association to provide services in the community for persons with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Our mission is to enable individuals and their families an opportunity to achieve self-determined goals in
partnership with this Agency.
