St. Lawrence NYSARC Recieved Snowshoes from Health Initiative Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - St. Lawrence NYSARC, a private, non-profit organization committed to maximizing the potential of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, received a generous grant to further offerings at the Dodge Pond vacation destination in Fine, NY.  Twenty sets of snowshoes and poles were donated from the Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Places St. Lawrence County Project, a grant funded by the New York State Department of Health.

The snowshoes and poles were put to good use at St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Dodge Pond during the Winter Fest vacation.  Participants used the snowshoes to walk trails on the more than 300 acres of land available on the site.  Guests also participated in a variety of outdoor activities, such as: skiing, sledding, broomball and more.  The biggest event of the weekend included a fishing tournament hosted by Don Meissner, professional angler and coordinator of FISHCAP.

Dodge Pond offers several vacation opportunities for people with disabilities.  Staff is currently making plans for escape packages specially designed for individuals who enjoy fun and relaxation in a rustic setting.  To learn more, visit www.slnysarc.org, find us on Facebook, or contact Joe Montgomery at 315-848-2336/jmontgomery@slnysarc.org.
