Operations
Department: St. Lawrence NYSARC owns and operates a small vehicle
repair facility at 6 Commerce Lane, Canton, New York. The garage
employs one fulltime maintenance coordinator, four fulltime mechanic
and one sheltered workshop employee whose primary duties include
washing and cleaning vehicles. The staff members at the garage
handle all repairs and preventative maintenance on Agency vehicles.
The facility is also a NYS Vehicle Repair Facility and NYS
Inspection Station.

The Director of
Operations, Transportation manager, and one Transportation clerk are
certified to conduct Defensive Driving courses which all drivers are
required to take and update every three years. The Operations Dept.
has three 19-A certified examiners who implement defensive driving
reviews and perform bi-annual road tests for all CDL drivers as
required by 19-A policy. |

Drivers receive
certification under Article 19-A of the Vehicle and traffic Law and
are licensed in accordance with the New York State Department of
Motor Vehicle's Commercial Driver's License provisions. All
CDL drivers participate in the Agency's Alcohol and Substance Abuse
testing program, as required by the Department of
Transportation Employee Testing Act. |

Transportation:
Agency vehicles traveled approximately 1,850,000 miles in 2008.
St. Lawrence NYSARC operates a fleet of over 115 vehicles, the
majority of which transport developmentally disabled individuals to
and from various programs and residential facilities, which include:

St. Lawrence NYSARC also works
with local agencies to transport seniors from several rural
communities to various villages for shopping, recreation, dining,
and medical needs. Many of these are done due to coordination
with the County Transportation Planning department. We also
operate a transporting service to and from homes for work, medical,
or integration activities. |

Facility Services:
This department includes nine maintenance personnel who respond to
and correct on average 100 work orders per month in addition to
maintaining 35 facilities throughout St. Lawrence County.
