The Area 27 Special Olympic Summer Games were held at Potsdam College on May 10, 2003. Over 200 athletes from St. Lawrence and Franklin counties participated in the event. During the opening ceremonies, area athletes and volunteers were recognized for their contributions to Area 27 Special Olympics. Recognized from St. Lawrence NYSARC were Walter Corey as Male Athlete of the Year, Sandra Tulip as Female Athlete of the Year, Deviller Street athletes and coaches as Training club of the Year and Tim Welpe as Committee Member of the Year.

St Lawrence NYSARC athletes and volunteers also received a special recognition on July 2, 2003 from Ogdensburg Postmaster Judie Hassett. With the issuance of a Special Olympic stamp, our chapters athletes and volunteers were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the olympic spirit. Two plaques displaying the Special Olympic stamp were presented( see photo). The plaques will be displayed at our Ogdensburg Work Center and RLL Center sites. We are most honored by this recognition.
